Shortly before the trade fair opened its doors to the public, the stationary refrigeration unit for the air-conditioning broke down. The repairs required were so extensive that it would not have been possible to complete them in time for the start of the trade fair.
TGiven the summery ambient temperatures, air-conditioning had to be provided because the Press Center had to be suitable for journalists from the international cycle sport press and sports reporters from ARD (German TV) to report on the innovations at Eurobike. Through the use of a mobile 265 kW cold water unit, it proved to be no problem whatsoever to deliver the refrigeration capability required. Having said that, the true solution to the problem lay in the connection to the refrigeration system inside the building: the Technical Center is located between two of the trade fair buildings under the roof of a complex that is surrounded by other interlinked structures. That meant that to connect the mobile chiller unit to the venue pipework, everything had to be routed over the flat roof. To accomplish this, the Service technicians from Hotmobil laid 80 meters of DN 100 pressure lines across the flat roof.
Prior to this, specialist contractors had prepared the groundwork by welding transitional connectors into the refrigeration distribution system and had also drilled two holes through the external wall of the Technical Center. A powerful circulati ng pump from the Hotmobil product range conveyed the cold water for the air-conditioning from the mobile chiller unit to the connection with the pipework system inside the building. „With the mobile chiller unit, we were able to ensure that press conferences and events in the VIP areas were able to enjoy comfortable temperatures despite the plant failure“, reflected Christi an Raidler from the Technical/Service Energy Management department at Friedrichshafen‘s ‚IBO‘ trade fair center.
